archaicintelligencer
Archaicintelligencer embodies the mystery, elegance, and humor of particular spy and assassin movie characters as well as the beauty of historic Norse seafarer hair styles and tough body armor.
The character of the Thin Man from the 1929 silent film Metropolis has always intrigued me. The absolute mystery, creepiness, yet handsomeness of how cool and dapper he looks in his elongated waist coat, wide rimmed hat, and flawless hair is ever alluring.
The J.K. Jopling's character from Wes Anderson's "The Grand Budapest Hotel" has an interesting quirkiness I love. Although he is an assassin, there is something humorous about his demeanor. A main inspiration of this character is in the amazing black leather trench coat he wears. On his upper chest there is a pocket that opens with snaps to reveal his whiskey flask, gun, and other essential job accoutrements. The whole dramatic gesture of opening a pocket with snaps with the movement of his hand makes me laugh when I see it, but also it looks impressive and will always make a statement because you can’t “not” see the effort of opening the pocket. The eye is drawn right to that pocket as it opens. Every pocket in the collection opens this way to reveal hidden pockets inside shaped in the form of an eye (subtle spy reference).
Finally, the beauty of Viking hair in the way it is knotted & braided in sections also appeals to me and works as a soft trim in this collection. Viking armor is another important part of the inspiration because I like the grittiness of crackled armor and the idea of protection and survival in the harsh world.
